JAMES CROMWELL (Zefram Cochrane) plays the human scientist who developed the warp drive, which powers Starfleet starships. Cromwell recently earned an Academy Award® nomination for Best Supporting Actor as Farmer Hoggett in Babe. His film credits include the original Revenge of the Nerds and its two sequels; Pink Cadillac; The Man With Two Brains; The Cheap Detective; his first film, Neil Simon's Murder By Death; and Eraser, with Arnold Schwarzenegger. He will soon be seen in Oliver Stone's The People v Larry Flynt. .

Not a first-timer to the "Star Trek" universe, Cromwell made three guest starring appearances on the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" television series. He portrayed Stretch Cunningham on "All in the Family," and has had guest roles in "Strange Luck," "The Client," "Picket Fences," "L.A. Law," "Home Improvement," "Hill Street Blues," "Dallas," "Mash," "The Twilight Zone" and a role in the HBO movie "Indictment: The McMartin Trial." James, son of the legendary film director John Cromwell, is married to actress Julie Cobb, daughter of acclaimed actor Lee J. Cobb. They live in Los Angeles.
