Jan is the second oldest girl, a middle child if there ever was one. She is insanely jealous of Marcia, "insane" being the operative word. Marcia's beauty, her popularity, her achievements seem to haunt Jan everywhere she goes. Fans will remember Jan's hilarious brush with schizophrenia in "The Brady Bunch Movie," as she struggled with dueling inner voices -- one which told her to chill, the other to kill. She even tried to get help from the ultimate last resort: her school counselor ("Come back when you're pregnant, Jan").
Jan is the only Brady who needs to wear glasses, but they're a threat to her vanity, an unacceptable handicap in her competition with Marcia. So she refuses to wear them. She'd rather ride her bike in near-blindness, tearing side view mirrors off of cars and falling into hedges. Jan is nothing if not determined. Her silent fight for recognition is heroic, but always futile. She wore the biggest fright wig ever seen on a motion picture screen to her high school dance, but nobody noticed. It was her idea that the Brady kids enter a talent contest to win the money to save their house, but nobody listened until Marcia said the exact same thing... and took credit for it. Jan's inner demons were finally dismissed by her grandmother's sage advice, "Oh, Jan, cut the crap!"
