(To computer-access trainees: Welcome aboard the Starfleet starship simulator. Your computer link-up to the Enterprise-E is intended to give you useful starship experience. However, some displays may vary from the exact configuration of the Enterprise-E. SEE SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS BELOW FOR INTERFACE REQUIREMENTS.)
While the Enterprise's crew is on shore leave at a nearby starbase, we are allowed to use this magnificent vessel for training purposes. We will be performing some standard maneuvers to help you get familiar with starship procedures.
We realize you have just taken a long trip via interstellar shuttle to come here from your home planet. Even at Warp factor 6, this position is over 7 days from Earth, and some of you have traveled farther than that. But we promise you, this will be different from passenger travel. You are now a member of the crew.
BE AWARE: As a crew member, you may be called upon to take up active duty, including combat duty, in an emergency situation. Deep space sensors have detected unusual activity near the border of the Delta quadrant, possibly originating in Borg space. While such a distance would normally take weeks to traverse even at high warp factors, the possibility of attack remains real. If you wish to qualify for armed defense, you must have the Shockwave plug-in installed.
WELCOME ABOARD.

Use the "Mode" buttons across the bottom of your display to help you get to different activities.
"NAVIGATION" displays the ship's schematic section diagram, which will transport you inside the ship. (One of the navigation choices is this Transporter Room, if you need to review these instructions.)
In any room of the ship, you may enter 3-D mode (VRML), by pushing the 3-D button at the lower-right corner of the room display. You can then display 3-D at full screen size by using the "Full Screen" button, or return to 2-D display with the 2-D button. (3-D mode requires use of Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or Netscape Navigator 3.0 with Live3D capability. See Interface Requirements above.)

In any room of the ship, you may use the message menu on the left to choose and send communications to the room at large. Select a message from one of the pull-down menus, then click the SEND button at left to send it.
You may switch to Personal mode to communicate only to one individual. First, select an individual recipient's name or icon. Then follow the same procedure of selecting a message from one of the pull-down menus, then clicking the SEND button.
If you are in Room mode and another trainee sends you a personal message, a small yellow light will blink next to the "Switch To Personal" button. Click "Switch to Personal" to receive the message.
"DATABASE" will allow you to retrieve information directly from LCARS (The Library Computer Access and Retrieval System).
"DEFENSE" is only for "red alert" conditions. Likelihood of a red alert on a training cruise is minimal. However, in the event of an emergency, you have been assigned a battle station and you are required to go there. "Defense" mode is deactivated under normal (non-red alert) conditions.
